Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State
softball team improved their record to 25-9, 10-2 in the
conference as they defeated Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint
Mary, 3-0, 8-0 in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Blue Knights fall to 16-20
(9-3 Skyline).
In the series opener, sophomore Hope Zino (Bay
Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) allowed only two hits, no walks, and
struck out 15, breaking her own previous school record for
strikeouts in a game. Zino struck out 14 against Old Westbury on
April 15, 2009.
Both freshman second baseman Maressa
Mistretta (Shirley, N.Y. / Longwood) and sophomore left fielder
Rebecca
Richman (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) had RBI singles to help
the Rams' offense.
For Mount Saint Mary, freshman Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place,
N.Y. / Miller Place) pitched six innings, giving up six hits in
defeat.
In the second game, the Rams jumped out to an early lead as
sophomore center fielder Kaitlin
Keenan (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) singled up the middle.
Junior shortstop Nicole Farber
(Oakdale, N.Y. / Connetquot) single through the right side, scoring
Rickman who reach on an error. Sophomore first baseman Aubrey Walker
(West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) then flied out to deep left
center, scoring both Keenan and Farber. Farber finished 2-for-2
with two runs scored. Freshman catcher Jennifer
Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) provided the
most offense for the Rams, going 2-for-2 with a double, three runs
batted in and a run scored.
Junior Heather
Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y. / Connetquot) gave up three hits over
five innings, striking out five in route to the shutout.
Junior first baseman Jackie Governale (Plainedge, N.Y. /
Plainedge) had a pair of singles, while sophomore shortstop
Danielle Orender (Wall, N.J. / Wall) had the only Blue Knights'
extra base hit of the day, a double to left center.
Farmingdale will host Purchase College tomorrow at Noon for a
double header as they complete their Skyline Conference regular
season schedule.
