Rams Sweep Gators, Improve to 18-6 Overall

Troy, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's softball team posted a doubleheader sweep over the Sage College Gators today at Robison Field in Troy, N.Y. Farmingdale improved to 18-6 overall, 7-1 in the Skyline; while Sage fell to 0-20, 0-8 in the conference.

Game 1

Farmingdale State sophomore pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) had a perfect game in progress until the fourth inning when Sage sophomore Ashley Eberle (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) and senior Kellie Jones (Troy, N.Y./Troy) spoiled her no-hit and perfect game bid. Zino (8-4) finished with six strikeouts in the game for her ninth complete game and fourth shutout of the year.

Sophomore leftfielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), freshman catcher Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and sophomore first baseman Shelby Martin (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) all hit home runs in game one. Martin, Jarczynski, and junior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) finished with 2 RBI's each for the Rams.

Sage sophomore Kristen Knights (Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) took the loss (0-8) after 3.1 innings of work with eight hits allowed and four earned runs. Freshman Nichole French (Harrisville, N.Y./Harrisville Center) pitched in relief for the Gators.

Game 2

Farmingdale would combine for 11 hits and nine runs in game two as Martin, Jarczynski, and sophomore leftfielder Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) notched a homerun each.

The Rams got one run in the first inning off an RBI single to center from Farber to score Richman for the early lead, before adding four in the second on four hits and one error. Freshman Maressa Mistretta singled to right center for the first RBI of the inning, followed by RBI's by Richman, sophomore centerfielder Kaitlin Keenan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Farber.

Jarczynski and Martin tallied the back-to-back solo homers in the top of the third inning for the Rams for the only two runs of the inning. Maass hit her two-run homer in the top of the fifth to make it 9-0 Rams.

Sage started a rally in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one run, but were not able to convert leaving two runners on base and falling 9-1. Sage freshman Gabriella Skillen (Milford, NY) was given the loss after 2.1 innings with five earned runs, a walk and a strikeout.

Farmingdale freshman pitcher Lauren Fitzpatrick (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) improved to 3-0 as she pitched a complete game, including four scoreless innings, with six strikeouts and four hits.

Farmingdale State hosts Hunter College for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 15th at 3:30 p.m.
