Box Score Monteith Leads Oneonta over Rams
Oneonta State - 21, Farmingdale State - 9
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State
women's lacrosse team fell to Oneonta State today as sophomore
attack Rebecca Monteith (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored eight
goals and one assist to lead her team to a 21-9 victory. The Rams
fall to 2-3 overall with the loss, while Oneonta improves to 6-1.
In the first half, Farmingdale's freshman midfielder Emily
Williams (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) scored an unassisted goal
in the first minute of play, followed by a goal from junior attack
Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) for a 2-0 lead.
Oneonta responded with four quick goals to take the lead 4-2.
Rothar notched her second of the day to make it 4-3, before the Red
Dragons exploded for five straight to make it 9-3. Williams notched
her second goal to cut the deficit to 9-4, but Oneonta junior
midfielder Rosemarie Fazio (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) closed out
the half with a score on a free position shot to give her team a
10-4 lead at the half.
Monteith added three more goals in the second, as her team
scored 11 more goals, while allowing just five for Farmingdale to
run away with the non-conference victory.
Rothar and Williams both finished with four goals, while
freshman midfielder Ashley Tsirigotis (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East
Islip) added one goal and team-highs of five ground balls and four
draw controls. Jackie Gunn also finished with five ground balls,
along with one draw control and three caused turnovers.
Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park)
made 16 saves in the loss, while sophomore goalkeeper Annelise
Muscietta (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Copiague) made 14 saves for the win.
The Rams will now face Manhattanville College on Tuesday, March
30th for a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. in Purchase, N.Y.
