Box Score 2 Rams Split with NYU-Poly

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State
softball team split a doubleheader match-up with NYU-Poly this
afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. NYU-Poly squeezed out two unearned
runs off of sophomore starting pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y. /
Bay Shore) to take the first game, 2-0. Sophomore first baseman
Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) helped the Rams
outscored the Fighting Blue Jays, 6-3, in the second game with two
home runs.
In game one, NYU-Poly capitalized on a Farmingdale error
with back-to-back RBI singles by freshman shortstop Shelby Bruns
(Elko, Nev. / Elko) and senior third baseman Ryan Graybill
(Missouri City, Texas / Elkins). The Rams would threaten in the
bottom of the seventh with a pair of leadoff singles by Walker and
freshman third basemen Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y. / Brentwood),
but were unable to bring the two home.
In game two, Farmingdale would score first, in the third, off a
freshman designated player Meghan Kirchmeier (Hauppauge, N.Y. /
Hauppauge) squeeze-bunt. The Rams added a second run in the next
inning on Walker's first home run, making it 2-0. NYU-Poly bounced
back in the next frame on a Farmingdale error, opening the inning
up for three Fighting Blue Jays runs.
The Rams responded in the bottom of the fifth. Kirchmeier laid
down a beautiful bunt for a single and advancing freshman second
baseman Maressa Mistretta (Shirley, N.Y. / Longwood), whom walked
to lead off, to second. Sophomore centerfielder Kaitlin Keenan
(West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) advance the two over with a
sacrifice bunt. Junior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y. /
Connetquot) put the Rams up with a three-run homer off the left
field foul pole. Walker then made it back-to-back home runs, adding
an insurance run.
Farmingdale State will host Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent
tomorrow at Noon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
