Rams Fall at Baruch Despite Smith's 30 Points

New York, N.Y. - Junior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) scored a game-high 30 points for Farmingdale State as the Rams fell 77-70 at Baruch College. Farmingdale now stands at 1-2 overall, while Baruch improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Rams started quickly as they opened the game on a 12-0 run, highlighted by Smith who had four layups over that span. The Bearcats answered with a 12-3 run of their own, cutting the deficit to 15-12 midway through the first half. Baruch took its first lead of the game at the 7:19 mark, as junior guard Chris Beauchamp (Gelndale, N.Y./Xavier) scored on a layup which put the Bearcats on top 21-19.

Leading 31-30 with 1:14 remaining in the half, Baruch closed on an 8-0 run to take a 39-33 advantage into halftime.

Smith scored Farmingdale State first nine points of the second half, as the Rams regained the lead 42-41 with 16:35 to play.

Trailing 66-59 with 3:35 left in the game, Rams junior forward Davon Henry (New York, N.Y./Wadleigh) scored on a layup off the feed from Dyshaun Flournoy (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood). Farmingdale State forced a turnover on Baruch's next possession and John Dabney converted two free-throws after being fouled, cutting the Rams deficit to 66-63 with 2:53 remaining.

The Bearcats converted 9-of-10 at the free-throw line over the final two minutes to seal the 77-70 non-conference victory.

Farmingdale State was led by Smith who was 12-for-18 from the floor (30 pts), had nine rebounds and four assists. Henry shot 45% from the field scoring 12 points for the Rams.

Senior guard Lionel Hilaire (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had 28 points and four blocks, while Beauchamp scored 17 for Baruch.

Farmingdale State next will open Skyline Conference play at Yeshiva University on Thursday, December 2nd at 8:00 p.m.
