FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's soccer team fell, 3-0, to Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at home. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Rams dropped to 0-3-1.
Rutgers-Newark controlled play early, scoring just 45 seconds into the match. Following a short corner, a cross found Zahradeen Amadou, who headed the ball to Gabe Gomez, who finished from close range to give the Scarlet Raiders a 1-0 lead.
Rutgers-Newark continued to pressure FSC and doubled its advantage in the 18th minute when Amadou scored after receiving a cross in front to make it 2-0.
The Scarlet Raiders outshot the Rams, 13-1, in the opening half as FSC trailed 2-0 at the break. Sophomore goalkeeper Vas Dallas (Garden City South, N.Y.) recorded five saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the Rams within striking distance.
Rutgers-Newark added another goal just 2:19 into the second half when Derek Jimenez's shot from the top of the box hit the crossbar and found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0.
Farmingdale State generated 10 shots, including four on goal, in the second half but were unable to score. Sophomore forward Lucca Noboa (Freeport, N.Y.) had two shots on target, while midfielder Johnny Guillen (Locust Valley, N.Y.) and winger Josue Corea (Wyandanch, N.Y.) each had a shot saved by Rutgers-Newark goalkeeper Samuel Rios.
The Rams finished with 11 shots and four corner kicks. Rutgers-Newark recorded 19 shots, with eight on target, and nine corner kicks.
Farmingdale State will next host CCNY for a non-conference match on Friday, September 11th at 4:00 p.m.
