Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and senior setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) combined for 11 kills, 25 assists and nine service aces on Friday afternoon to lead the Farmingdale State women's volleyball team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over visiting Suffolk University. The Rams improved to 2-1 on the season, while Suffolk fell to 0-1.
FSC opened the match with a dominant 25-12 first-set victory before Suffolk answered with a 25-17 win in the second to even the match at one set apiece.
The Rams trailed 2-1 in the third set before rattling off nine consecutive points behind the serving of senior libero Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) to take a 10-2 advantage. Farmingdale State maintained control the rest of the way to earn the 25-7 victory and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
FSC carried the momentum into the fourth set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead and allowing just three more Suffolk points the rest of the way. The Rams closed out the match with a 25-5 victory to earn the 3-1 win.
Russo finished with a match-high 11 kills on a .357 hitting percentage, to go with 13 digs and three service aces. Rende recorded 25 assists, 11 digs and a match-high six aces, while junior outside hitter Leslie Wandmacher (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied seven kills. Sophomore middle blocker Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) added five kills on a .364 hitting percentage, and junior middle blocker Caroline Lange (Shoreham, N.Y.) finished with two kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
As a team, FSC hit .204, totaled 17 service aces and six block assists in the victory.
The Rams will next play host to non-conference opponent Bard College on Tuesday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m.
