FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 shutout victory over Western Connecticut State University on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at home.
The Rams (2-5) swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Seniors Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) opened with a 6-0 victory in the top-flight, while sophomore Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Emma Johannsen (Verplanck, N.Y.) earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Marybeth Zimos (Hicksville, N.Y.) and freshman Ana Hernandez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory in the third position.
Farmingdale State carried the momentum into singles play, winning all six matches. Furchel recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while Burnett followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the second position. Loria earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at third singles before Hernandez battled to a 7-5, 6-4 win in the fourth slot.
Johannsen added a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, while Zimos closed out the shutout with a hard-fought, three-set victory in the sixth position, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-6).
FSC is next scheduled to travel to Manhattanville University on Saturday, September 26th for a Skyline Conference match at noon, weather permitting.
