TJ Cox's (Mineola, N.Y.) first career complete game, top-seeded Farmingdale State College advanced to the final round of the 2026 Skyline Conference Baseball Championship with a 10-4, winners bracket victory Friday afternoon against third-seeded St. Joseph's University-Long Island.
The Rams (26-9) advanced to Sunday's 11 a.m. championship final of the double elimination tournament, where they will play host and look to repeat as Skyline champions. FSC now awaits the winner of Friday night's elimination game between the Golden Eagles (22-19) and fifth-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to finalize the pairings. Farmingdale State would need one victory on Mother's Day to retain the crown, while Friday night's winner would need to defeat the Rams twice in order to capture the title.
Farmingdale State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, as it scored six runs to take a commanding lead. Seniors
Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.) and
Ryan Plocker (Dix Hills, N.Y.) walked to open the inning, before junior second baseman
Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Sophomore shortstop
Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single, while two more runs come home one batter later on a throwing error by St. Joseph's. Junior designated hitter
Carmine Scardina (Farmingdale, N.Y.) registered a run-scoring single to give FSC a 4-0 lead, before a wild pitch and RBI ground out by junior third baseman
Christian Villacci (Nesconset, N.Y.) later in the inning increased the hosts' lead to 6-0.
The Golden Eagles responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, slicing their deficit to 6-2.
FSC's lead remained at four runs until it pushed two runs across in the sixth inning on RBI singles from Plocker and Wasserman. Senior first baseman
Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Scardina added RBI singles in the top of the eighth as Farmingdale State took a 10-2 advantage.
St. Joseph's registered a pair of eighth inning runs, but Cox (8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2K; 99 pitches) forced a pair of ground outs to end the threat. The right-hander then pitched around a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, and forced three consecutive ground outs from Golden Eagles hitters to wrap up the victory and move to 7-0 on the mound this spring.
Wasserman (2 R), Scardina (2 RBI) and Plocker (2 BB) each registered two hits in the victory, while Delacruz and Heyder (2 IBB) all had one hit, run and RBI.
