Baseball Loses at No. 6/7 Shenandoah on First Day of NCAA Regional

2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship - Winchester Regional
No. 6/7 Shenandoah 21, Farmingdale State 1
WINCHESTER, Va. | Farmingdale State College fell Friday afternoon on the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, as the Rams dropped a 21-1 decision to host Shenandoah – ranked No. 6 nationally in this week's ABCA Division III Poll and No. 7 in the D3baseball.com tally.

The Rams (27-10), which saw their 21-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Hornets (36-10), will now play an elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m. against the losing team from Friday afternoon's tilt between Transvlvania University and Messiah University.

FSC threatened to open the scoring in the top of the second inning, placing runners at second and third with two out. Senior outfielder Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.) reached on a one-out walk, and moved up 90 feet when sophomore Mike D'Angelo (Mineola, N.Y.) got on courtesy of a fielder's choice. Both runners were in scoring position following a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Tyler Diez (Levittown, N.Y.), before Shenandoah starter Blake Griffin (7 IP, ER, 3 H, 2 BB) got one of his five strikeouts on the day to get out of the jam.

The Hornets went ahead with a six-run bottom of the second inning, before Farmingdale State got onto the scoreboard in the top of the third. Sophomore shortstop Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.) reached on a one-out infield single, before junior Carmine Scardina (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was issued a two-out walk. Freshman outfielder Matt Faraone (East Yaphank, N.Y.) then drove home Delacruz from second base, as he sent a 2-1 pitch up the middle for a base hit.

Delacruz, Faraone, senior Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and senior Christopher Sais (Hicksville, N.Y.) had one hit apiece on the day for Farmingdale State.
