Giovinco Records 200th Career Point as Men's Lacrosse Races Past Purchase

Farmingdale State 20, Purchase 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team scored 10 first-quarter goals Wednesday afternoon and never looked back in defeating Skyline Conference foe Purchase College, 20-1.

Just 4:05 into the game, Rams junior attack Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) became just the third player in program history to record 200 career points, as he reached the milestone by assisting on a goal by senior Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.) to put FSC (8-3, 1-1 Skyline) ahead 3-0. The hosts fired 10 goals past the Panthers (1-6, 0-2) in the opening quarter, including a hat trick by senior midfielder Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) and two goals apiece for Giovinco, Mai and senior Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.).

Freshman attack Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) completed his hat trick at the 13:08 mark of the second quarter, as Farmingdale State carried a 15-0 lead into halftime.

The Rams outshot Purchase by a 51-7 margin on the afternoon, and limited the visitors to a 9-of-23 success rate on clears. Senior William Henry (West Islip, N.Y.) caused a game-high five turnovers at the back of the Farmingdale State defense, who used four goalkeepers for one period apiece, while junior midfielders Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) and Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.) both notched three takeaways.

Offensively, Giovinco finished with six points on three goals and as many assists, and Slaughter's five points (2g, 3a) tied a career-high. Murtha (3g, a), Mai and junior Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) all registered four-point afternoons, while Fabrice Cormier (Copiague, N.Y.), Mark Reyes (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Dylan Dwyer (Coram, N.Y.) all scored their first FSC goals.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline action Friday at 3 p.m., when it travels to St. Joseph's-Long Island.
