Farmingdale State - 18, St. Joseph's-Long Island - 3
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team defeated St. Joseph's University-Long Island, 18-3, in a Skyline Conference contest on Friday afternoon.
The Rams (9-3, 2-1 Skyline) jumped out to a commanding lead in the opening quarter, scoring eight unanswered goals. Junior long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 2:10 in before junior attack Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) scored to go up 2-0. After a goal by freshman attack Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Forchelli and junior Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) each scored twice to take a 7-0 lead.
FSC led 10-0 before Forchelli scored a pair of goals just 59 seconds apart. Rams' sophomore Dylan Dwyer (Coram, N.Y.) won the ensuing face-off and Vargas tallied another goal only 12 seconds later to put Farmingdale State ahead 13-0.
The Rams added second-half goals from junior midfielder Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.), senior attack Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Casey Fortunato (Northport, N.Y.) as they cruised to the 18-3 Skyline victory.
Forchelli led the Rams with five goals, while Giovinco tallied six points on three goals and three assists.
Vargas added three goals and one assist, while Fortunato recorded four points with two goals and two assists. Slaughter contributed two goals and an assist in the win.
Defensively, Farmingdale State held the Golden Eagles to just 14 shots. Junior Daniel Ainbinder (Levittown, N.Y.) led the effort at the faceoff X, winning 11-of-13 draws as the Rams controlled possession throughout the contest.
In goal, junior Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) earned the win after making two saves over the opening 30 minutes. Sophomore Matthew Taylor (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) recorded one save in relief, while freshman Ryan Schnepf (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) recorded two stops in net.
The Rams will next travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline Conference matchup on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m.
