Baseball Defeats Baruch, Runs Win Streak to 14 Straight Games

Farmingdale State 12, Baruch 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College baseball team scored seven runs across the first two innings Tuesday afternoon, including two-run homers by senior Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Matt Faraone (East Yaphank, N.Y.), as the Rams upped their winning streak to 14 consecutive games with a 12-1 decision over Baruch College in seven innings.

FSC (20-9) gave freshman starting pitcher James Minutillo (East Yaphank, N.Y.) all the run support he would need in a four-run first inning, with Heyder starting the rout with a two-run home run to right-center field. For Heyder, the homer was his team-leading sixth of the campaign. The Rams doubled their lead over the Bearcats (13-13) on a triple to center field by junior Vincent Deiosso (Glen Cove, N.Y.) to score junior Carmine Scardina (Farmingdale, N.Y.), followed by Deiosso trotting home a run-scoring single up the middle by freshman Joseph Lanza (East Meadow, N.Y.).

Faraone's first collegiate home run came with one out in the second inning, when he blasted a two-run shot over the left-center field wall to score sophomore Tyler Diez (Levittown, N.Y.), before Deiosso plated Scardina once more, this time with a double to left-center, to up the hosts' edge to 7-0.

A RBI double down the left-field line by Scardina highlighted a two-run fifth inning for FSC, before a three-run sixth frame was led by a two-run triple to center by Faraone to put the Rams ahead and allow the contest to end after the top of the seventh via the mercy rule.

Scardina ended the afternoon 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, with Faraone, Deiosso, Diez and Lanza all registering two hits apiece. Minutillo pitched four innings of three-hit shutout ball to earn his first collegiate victory on the mound.

The Rams have a pair of Skyline Conference doubleheaders to wrap up the regular season this weekend, beginning with Friday's 3 p.m. set at Purchase College, followed by Saturday's home noontime twinbill on Senior Day versus SUNY Old Westbury.
