Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past MSV on Senior Day; Secures No. 2 Seed for Playoffs

Farmingdale State - 20, Mount Saint Vincent - 5
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Mount Saint Vincent, 20-5, in a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams secured the No. 2 seed in the Skyline Conference Championship and will next host No. 3 Maritime in the semifinal round on Thursday (Apr 30).

It was senior day at FSC and a special pregame ceremony honored six seniors playing in their final regular season home game: Casey Fortunato (Northport, N.Y.), Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.), Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.), Liam McGroarty (Northport, N.Y.), Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.), and William Henry (West Islip, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State (13-3, 6-1 Skyline) outscored the Dolphins (6-10, 3-4 Skyline), 6-1, in each of the first two quarters as they took a commanding 12-2 lead into the halftime break. Junior attack Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) opened the scoring at the 13:48 mark off an assist from classmate Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.). Mai followed with a goal from Giovinco, and Murtha added another off a pass from Slaughter to extend the lead to 3-0. Forchelli scored with 10:00 remaining in the period, while Mai added two unassisted goals later in the quarter as Farmingdale carried a 6-1 advantage into the second.

Mai added another goal early in the second quarter before Forchelli recorded back-to-back goals, including his 50th of the season at the 8:23 mark. The milestone marks just the sixth 50-goal season in program history, and Forchelli currently leads the Skyline Conference in goals scored. Later in the period, Vargas scored off an assist from Mai and Forchelli added a man-up goal as the Rams took a 12-2 lead into halftime.

FSC continued its scoring in the third quarter with six more goals. Mai scored on a man-up opportunity early in the frame before Forchelli added another goal. Freshman midfielder Richie Melisurgo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season, and junior midfielder Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.) added another late in the period to make it 18-3 entering the fourth.

The Rams added two goals in the final quarter, both by Vargas on extra-man opportunities, to close out the 20-5 victory.

Forchelli led the Rams with seven goals and two assists for nine points. Mai finished with six goals and two assists for eight points, while Vargas recorded three goals and one assist. Giovinco totaled one goal and five assists and surpassed the 100-career assist mark during the contest. Giovinco now ranks second all-time in program history with 101 career assists, trailing only Thomas Stock (2021-2025), who holds the program record with 115.

Mai also reached a milestone during the game, recording the 100th point of his Farmingdale State career.

Murtha, Melisurgo, and Parisi each added one goal, while Slaughter, Nick Maddux (Medford, N.Y.), and Thomas Bores (North Babylon, N.Y.) each recorded an assist. Defensively, Matt Durnin (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) totaled four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) made five saves to earn the win. Sophomore Matthew Taylor (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) recorded six saves in relief.

The Rams have earned the second seed in the Skyline Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship and will play host to third-seeded Maritime in the semifinals on Thursday, April 30th at 7:00 p.m.
