Men's Lacrosse Falls to Maritime in Skyline Conference Semifinal

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Second-seeded Farmingdale State was defeated by third-seeded Maritime, 13-5, on Thursday evening in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship. The Rams conclude their season at 13-4 overall, while the Privateers improved to 9-8 and advance to Saturday's Skyline Final at top-seeded Merchant Marine.

Maritime scored the first five goals of the game to take an early lead. Junior attack Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) scored with 2:07 left in the first quarter off an assist from classmate Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.) before senior midfielder Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) followed with an unassisted goal to close the gap to 5-2.

Senior midfielder Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.) scored in the opening minutes of the second quarter to bring the Rams within two, but the Privateers added a goal late in the half to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, junior attack Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) scored off an assist from Forchelli to cut the deficit to 6-4. Maritime responded with four consecutive goals to extend the lead to 10-4 entering the fourth quarter.

The Privateers added three goals in the final quarter before FSC freshman Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored late to account for 13-5 final score.

Forchelli and Mai finished with a goal and an assist each, while Giovinco, Murtha, and Vargas had one goal apiece. 

Junior long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) recorded five caused turnovers and three ground balls, while sophomore defender Matt Durnin (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) produced three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Junior goalkeeper Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the loss.
