Men's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to Manhattanville

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team hosted Manhattanville University on Tuesday afternoon in a Skyline Conference matchup and fell by a score of 4-3. With the result, the Rams dropped to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in Skyline play, while the Valiants improved to 9-7, 5-0.

Manhattanville opened the match by sweeping the three doubles contests to take a 1-0 lead. At first doubles, freshman Devan Melandro (Syosset, N.Y.) and sophomore Zakaria Ahmed (Manhasset, N.Y.) fell 6-2 to Elouan Charretteur and Kazuma Kato. Junior Kwaku Agyeman (Middletown, N.Y.) and freshman Henri Pothier (Montgomery, N.Y.) were defeated 6-1 at second doubles by Thomas Jouanneau and Derwin Guzman, while junior Emil Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and freshman Luke Plana (Bohemia, N.Y.) dropped a 7-5 decision to Nicholas Gervasi and Sami Badre-Hume at third doubles.

The Rams earned three singles victories in the match. Sophomore Michael Lerman (Massapequa, N.Y.) posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Guzman at fourth singles, while Pothier recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Gervasi at fifth singles. Junior Danial Zindani (Walden, N.Y.) added a 6-1, 6-4 win over Badre-Hume at sixth singles.

At the top of the lineup, Melandro claimed the first set at No. 1 singles before falling in three sets to Jouanneau, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Ahmed also won his opening set at second singles before Kato rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory. Agyeman was defeated in straight sets by Charretteur at third singles.

Farmingdale State will return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 15th, when they host non-conference opponent Hunter College at 4:30 p.m.
