Mai Scores Career-High Seven as Men's Lacrosse Defeats Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. | Senior midfielder Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.) scored a career-high seven goals to lead the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team to a 17-1 Skyline Conference victory at Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday evening. With the win, FSC improved to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Mount Saint Mary fell to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

The Rams opened the scoring with five goals in the first quarter. Junior attack Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) scored the first two of the game before Mai added two of his own. Freshman attack Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored with 1:43 remaining in the quarter off an assist from junior midfielder Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.) to make it 5-0.

Farmingdale State added four goals in the second quarter to take a 9-0 lead into halftime. Mai scored three times in the quarter, while senior midfielder Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.) recorded a goal with an assist from senior midfielder Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.).

The Rams scored five times in the third quarter as Vargas recorded two goals and Slaughter, Mai and Forchelli each added one.

FSC added three goals in the fourth quarter, including the first collegiate score from freshman midfielder David Maldonado (West Hempstead, N.Y.), as they went on for the 17-1 victory.

Mai tallied his career-high seven goals on 14 shots on goal. Forchelli and Vargas each recorded three goals, while Slaughter totaled two goals and one assist. Junior long stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) and Parisi each recorded two assists in the win.

Freshman Fabrice Cormier (Copiague, N.Y.) won 15-of-17 face offs and collected six ground balls, while sophomore Dylan Dwyer (Coram, N.Y.) won all four of his face off attempts.

Junior goalkeeper Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) started in net and made seven saves in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Taylor (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) started the fourth quarter and made two saves, while freshman goalkeeper Ryan Schnepf (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) entered the game with nine minutes remaining before sophomore goalkeeper Sean Rowan (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) played the final 2:30 in goal.

Farmingdale State will next travel to Manhattanville for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, April 18th at noon.
