FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team completed its suspended Skyline Conference match against Merchant Marine on Sunday afternoon, earning a 7-0 victory over the Mariners.
The match originally began on April 1st but was halted due to rain during doubles competition before play resumed on Sunday.
Merchant Marine (5-3, 4-1 Skyline) picked up a 6-3 win at first doubles, but the Rams (5-5, 3-0 Skyline)Â claimed the other two matches to secure the doubles point. Junior Emil Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and freshman Luke Plana (Bohemia, N.Y.) posted a 6-3 win at third doubles, while junior Kwaku Agyeman (Middletown, N.Y.) and freshman Henri Pothier (Montgomery, N.Y.) followed with a 6-4 victory at second doubles to give Farmingdale State the early advantage.
The Rams then swept all six singles matches to seal the 7-0 conference victory.
Sophomore Zakaria Ahmed (Manhasset, N.Y.) earned a 6-0, 6-3 win in the second slot, while sophomore Jordan Gonzales (Central Islip, N.Y.) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory at sixth singles. Freshman Devan Melandro (Syosset, N.Y.) added a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at first singles.
Pothier secured a 7-5, 6-2 win at fifth singles, and Agyeman followed with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at third singles. Sophomore Michael Lerman (Massapequa, N.Y.) completed the singles sweep in the fourth spot, rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
Farmingdale State will next host Skyline Conference opponent Manhattanville on Tuesday, April 14th at 4:30 p.m.
