FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team earned a 17-3 victory over Maritime in a Skyline Conference contest on Friday afternoon at home. The Rams improved to 5-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win.
FSC jumped out to an early lead as senior attack Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring with a man-up goal at the 13:27 mark before classmate Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) followed with another man-up goal less than a minute later. Senior midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) added a tally midway through the quarter and both Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) and Rylee Valenzano (Centereach, N.Y.) found the back of the net as the Rams took a 5-2 lead after the first.
Farmingdale State extended their advantage in the second quarter with a free-position goal from junior attack Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) before two goals from Sohm gave FSC a 9-3 lead at the halftime break.
The Rams continued to control play in the second half, scoring five times in the third quarter with goals from Valenzano, Coppola, Neu (x2), and Sohm. The Rams added three more goals in the fourth quarter, including man-up tallies from Espey and senior attack Krystal Sulin (Nesconset, N.Y.), as they went on for the 17-3 conference win.
Sohm led the Rams offensively with nine points on five goals and four assists. Coppola and Neu each totaled four points with three goals and one assist apiece. Valenzano finished with two goals, an assist, six draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Espey added two goals and one assist. Sulin and Livingston chipped in with one goal and two assists each.
Defensively, Farmingdale State limited Maritime (2-6, 2-3 Skyline) to just 10 shots in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) made five saves to earn the victory in net. Livingston led the Rams with seven ground balls and a season-high five caused turnovers, while senior Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) caused four Privateers turnovers.
The Rams return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 11th when they host Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference game at 12:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, the program will hold its Senior Day ceremony beginning at 11:50 a.m.
