Montclair State - 17, Farmingdale State - 8
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team fell to Montclair State University, 17-8, on Saturday afternoon at home. With the loss, the Rams move to 0-3 on the season while the Red Hawks improve to 3-1.
Montclair opened the scoring just 10 seconds into the game before FSC junior attack Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) answered just 40 seconds later to even the score at 1-1. The Red Hawks responded with four unanswered goals over the remainder of the first quarter to take a 5-1 lead.
Montclair State tallied the first two goals of the second quarter to extend its advantage to 7-1. Senior attack Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) stopped the run for Farmingdale State with a goal off a feed from Livingston with 10:06 remaining in the half, but the Red Hawks added three more goals to close the period and take a 10-2 lead into the break.
Montclair added two quick goals to begin the third quarter and push their lead to 12-2 before Livingston registered her second goal of the contest at 7:28. Sophomore midfielder Rylee Valenzano (Centereach, N.Y.) followed with a goal later in the quarter and Neu produced her second goal of the game with 1:03 remaining in the third to make it 14-5 heading into the fourth.
Livingston completed her hat trick on a free-position goal with 9:54 remaining before senior attack Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) added her first goal of the season off an assist from Valenzano with 5:59 to play. Rams' senior midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) later scored a man-up goal with 2:15 remaining, but Montclair State went on for the 17-8 victory.
Livingston led the Rams offensively with three goals and two assists, while Neu added two goals. Valenzano finished with a goal, an assist and three draw control, and Sohm and Espey each recorded one goal. Espey also contributed five ground balls and five draw control. Junior goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) made eight saves in the contest.
Farmingdale State will next travel to face Ramapo on Wednesday, March 11th at 5:00 p.m.
