GENEVA, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's tennis team returned to action for the spring portion of its schedule on Saturday morning, falling to Hobart College, 7-0. The Rams dropped to 1-2 overall on the season, while the Statesmen improved to 2-0.
Hobart took the early advantage by sweeping the three doubles matches. At first doubles, sophomore Zakaria Ahmed (Manhasset, N.Y.) and freshman Devan Melandro (Syosset, N.Y.) dropped a 6-1 decision to Aidan Staunton and Nick Fischer. The Rams' closest doubles contest came at the second position where freshman Henri Pothier (Montgomery, N.Y.) and junior Danial Zindani (Walden, N.Y.) fell by a 6-4 score to Everett Reid and Achilleas Kousaridis. At third doubles, junior Kwaku Agyeman (Middletown, N.Y.) and sophomore Michael Lerman (Massapequa, N.Y.) were defeated by Jose Martinez Barelles and Tejus Ranadive, 6-0.
In singles play, Melandro battled in the top flight but fell in straight sets to Staunton, 7-6, 6-1. Agyeman was defeated by Michael Georgelis at second singles, 6-0, 6-3, while Zindani dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Reid at the third position.
Sophomore Jordan Gonzales (Central Islip, N.Y.) made a push in the first set of fifth singles before falling 7-5, 6-2 to Marco Olmos, while Pothier rounded out the singles lineup with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Tyler Snyder at sixth singles.
Farmingdale State will next travel to face Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference match on Tuesday, March 24th at 7 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
