QUEENS, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team opened Skyline Conference play with a 6-1 victory over Yeshiva University on Thursday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center. With the win, the Rams improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Maccabees fell to 3-5, 1-1.
FSC claimed two of the three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 advantage. The duo of junior Kwaku Agyeman (Middletown, N.Y.) and sophomore Michael Lerman (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles over Jack Radinsky and Elan Goldstein. At third doubles, junior Emil Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and freshman Luke Plana (Bohemia, N.Y.) edged Israel Bussu and Josh Zahavi by a 7-5 score to secure the doubles point.
Yeshiva picked up the win at No. 1 doubles as Jacob Feit and Matthew Esrail defeated freshman Henri Pothier (Montgomery, N.Y.) and junior Danial Zindani (Walden, N.Y.), 6-3.
The Rams controlled singles play, winning five of the six matches to secure the 6-1 victory.
Agyeman recorded a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Bussu, 6-4, 6-1. Lerman followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Radinsky in the No. 3 position.
Pothier picked up a win at fourth singles, topping Ethan Rolnick, 6-1, 6-0, while Zindani earned the victory at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Esrail.
Sophomore Jordan Gonzales (Central Islip, N.Y.) tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win against Goldstein at No. 6 singles.
Yeshiva's lone point came at No. 1 singles where Feit defeated sophomore Zakaria Ahmed (Manhasset, N.Y.) in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
