FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team earned a 20-4 victory over visiting Eastern Connecticut State on Friday afternoon behind nine points from junior attack
Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.). The Rams improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 0-1.
Farmingdale State struck early, opening the scoring just 45 seconds into the game when senior midfielder Casey Fortunato (Northport, N.Y.) finished a pass from Forchelli. Classmate Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.) followed with a goal and then assisted on a Forchelli goal to give FSC a 3-0 lead.
The Rams led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter before scoring nine times in the second to take a commanding 13-3 advantage into halftime. Forchelli, senior Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.), junior Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) and freshman Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each scored twice in the quarter, while junior Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) added one goal.
The Rams continued to extend the margin in the second half, outscoring Eastern Connecticut, 7-1, over the final two quarters. Mai recorded a goal and an assist in the third, and Vargas scored twice in the fourth as Farmingdale State went on for the 20-4 victory.
Forchelli led all players with nine points on five goals and four assists. Giovinco and Vargas each finished with four goals and one assist, while Mai totaled five points on two goals and three assists. Murtha recorded two goals and an assist and Fortunato added one goal, two assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Defensively, Lawson led the Rams with four caused turnovers and two ground balls. Freshman Bryce Morin (Glenmont, N.Y.) caused two turnovers and senior William Henry (West Islip, N.Y.) picked up three ground balls.
In goal, junior Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) earned the win with seven saves over 40:26. Sophomore Matthew Taylor (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) recorded four saves, while sophomore Sean Rowan (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made one save in relief. Freshman Ryan Schnepf (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) stopped two shots in the victory.
Farmingdale State will next head on its spring break trip to Florida, where the Rams will take on Western Connecticut at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport on March 17th at noon.
