Vassar - 18, Farmingdale State - 9
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. | Junior attack Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) recorded a game-high five goals as the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Vassar, 18-9, on Wednesday evening.
FSC (0-2) opened the scoring just 1:14 into the contest when Livingston converted a man-up opportunity to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Vassar (3-0) responded with the next two goals before Rams' sophomore midfielder Rylee Valenzano (Centereach, N.Y.) evened the score at 2-2 with 9:16 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Brewers answered with a four-goal run to jump ahead before Livingston and senior attack Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 6-4 late in the first.
Vassar closed the quarter with three consecutive goals to take a 9-4 advantage after 15 minutes. The Brewers extended their lead in the second quarter, scoring five consecutive goals to push the margin to 14-4. Valenzano later converted a free-position attempt with 3:55 remaining in the half, but Vassar added a late man-up tally to carry a 15-5 lead into the break.
The Rams received three second-half goals from Livingston, as well as one from senior midfielder Dayana Gonzalez (Brentwood, N.Y.), but fell by a score of 18-9.
Livingston finished with six points on five goals and one assist, while Valenzano had two goals, one caused turnover and two draw control. Neu and Gonzalez each recorded one goal for the Rams.
FSC will return to action on Saturday, March 7th, when they host Montclair State at 1:00 p.m.
