DeMaio No-Hitter Paces Softball's Skyline Opening Sweep Versus Sarah Lawrence

Game 1: Farmingdale State 10, Sarah Lawrence 0 (5 inn.)
Game 2: Farmingdale State 14, Sarah Lawrence 1 (5 inn.)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Junior right-handed pitcher Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) threw her first career no-hitter in the second game of Sunday afternoon's softball doubleheader for the Farmingdale State College softball team, which opened its Skyline Conference title defense with a home sweep against Sarah Lawrence College.

The Rams (5-7, 2-0 Skyline) captured a 10-0 victory in five innings in the opening contest against the Gryphons (2-12, 2-2), before earning a 14-1, five-inning triumph in DeMaio's no-hitter in the nightcap.

DeMaio, in her second year as a collegian, previously combined on a no-hitter in the 2025 regular-season finale at Sarah Lawrence (May 3, 2025) with Nicole Echevarria.

In Sunday's opening game, FSC went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning when senior designated player Samantha Stolfi's (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) drove home junior Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.).

From there, the Rams used an eight-run second inning to take control of the game. The hosts sent 12 batters to the plate in the frame, with sophomore Alexandra Pole (Rocky Point, N.Y.) recording two singles and freshman Emily Lopez (Miller Place, N.Y.) providing a two-run double to center field to score DeMaio and senior Lauren Varagnolo (Centereach, N.Y.).

Stolfi went 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI, while sophomore infielder Natalie McMichael (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored a pair of runs after working a pair of walks. DeMaio faced just three batters over the minimum, scattering two singles and one walk while striking out a career-high 11 Sarah Lawrence batters.

In the second contest, FSC scored twice in the first and second innings, before breaking the game open with a nine-run third frame in support of DeMaio. The righty issued a two-out walk in the first inning, before the Gryphons' leadoff hitter reached base on a walk in the fifth inning and came around to score on a pair of stolen bases on a right-side infield ground out.

The Rams' first-inning runs came when junior Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) lofted a sacrifice fly to score Toro, before Pole's RBI grounder plated junior Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.). Farmingdale State doubled its edge one inning later, courtesy of a McMichael RBI triple and a successful squeeze bunt by Toro to score sophomore Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.) and McMichael, respectively.

FSC registered a 13-batter third inning, as Sturtz (leadoff single, RBI triple) and Pole (pair of two-RBI doubles) recorded two hits apiece to pace the offensive explosion. Freshman Sabrina Lee (Westbury, N.Y.) came into the game midway through and added a pair of runs scored.

Sturtz went 3-for-3 in the nightcap with three runs scored, while Pole (five RBI), Galgano (three runs) and McMichael (two runs, three RBI) tallied two hits apiece.

Next up for Farmingdale State is a non-conference doubleheader Thursday at 3 p.m. at Montclair State University.
