MONTCLAIR, N.J. | The Farmingdale State softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games at Montclair State on Thursday afternoon. The Red Hawks took game one by a score of 6-0 before completing the sweep with an 8-3 victory in game two. Montclair State improved to 12-10 overall, while Farmingdale State dropped to 5-9 on the season.

In game one, the Red Hawks struck early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added three more in the third to take control on the way to a 6-0 win.

Junior third baseman Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) led the Rams offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Junior center fielder Ashley Toro (Bay Shore, N.Y.), junior catcher Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.), senior designated player Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), and sophomore shortstop Natalie McMichael (Smithtown, N.Y.) each recorded one hit in the contest.

Junior pitcher Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) tossed a complete game for FSC, allowing only two earned runs and six hits with three strikeouts.

In game two, Montclair State took a 1-0 lead in the first before adding two runs in the third to extend the advantage to 3-0.

The Rams answered in the top of the fourth inning. Stolfi started the rally with a single before sophomore Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.) drew a walk. Freshman Emily Lopez (Miller Place, N.Y.) then delivered a pinch-hit two-run double to right center to cut the deficit to one. Lopez later scored on a Montclair State error to tie the game at 3-3.

The Red Hawks responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth to regain the lead and followed with four more runs in the fifth as they went on for the 8-3 victory.

Stolfi finished 2-for-2 at the plate, while Lopez recorded two RBI's on her fourth-inning double. Junior right fielder Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) added a hit in the loss.

Farmingdale State will return home on Saturday, April 4th, when they host John Jay for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
