FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team fell Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference play to defending champion U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 11-6.

USMMA (3-3, 2-0 Skyline) scored four goals over the first nine minutes of the game, before FSC (2-7, 1-1) senior midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) buried a free position shot at the 4:11 mark of the first quarter to get the hosts on the board.

After the visiting Mariners used a three-goal spread to open up the second quarter, Rams junior attack Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) found senior Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) open for a player-up strike 5:47 before halftime.

The teams traded two goals apiece in the third frame, with Espey's second free-position goal of the day coming 91 seconds after the resumption of play and Livingston finding the back of the net with under 58 seconds to go. FSC's two fourth-period goals came from senior midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) off a pass from sophomore Rylee Valenzano (Centereach, N.Y.) with 7:03 left, along with a last-minute free-position score by senior Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.).

Espey added team-highs of four draw controls and two caused turnovers in the Rams midfield, while junior goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) posted her sixth-consecutive double-digit save outing by turning aside 12 Mariners shots.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline action on Wednesday night, when it travels to Mount Saint Mary College for a 6 p.m. opening draw.
