Sohm's Record-Tying Afternoon Powers Women's Lacrosse Past Manhattanville in Skyline Opener

Farmingdale State 19, Manhattanville 4
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior attack Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) tied a school single-game record with nine goals Tuesday afternoon, as the Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team opened Skyline Conference play with a convincing 19-4 victory over visiting Manhattanville University.

Sohm's nine goals are now tied top mark in the FSC record book with Justine Rothar (March 26, 2009 vs. Mount Saint Vincent) and current teammate, junior Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.; April 26, 2024 at St. Joseph's-Long Island).

The visiting Valiants (4-4, 1-1 Skyline) answered an early goal by Livingston at the 9:04 mark of the first quarter, before Sohm bagged a pair of goals to give the Rams (2-6, 1-0) a 3-1 edge after 15 minutes of play.

FSC outscored Manhattanville by a 7-2 margin in the second period, with senior Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) opening the run 3:20 after the resumption of action and Sohm burying four more goals before the halftime break.

Sohm, Coppola and Livingston all scored goals in the third quarter in helping push the hosts ahead by double digits, 14-4, before Sohm registered her record-tying ninth goal with 3:54 remaining in the game.

Sohm (1a, game-high 3 caused turnovers) and Livingston (6g, 4a) each collected 10 points in the victory, while Coppola and senior Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished with a hat trick and two assists, respectively. Junior goalie Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) notched her fifth-straight double-digit save outing, as she turned aside 10 Valiants shots on the afternoon.

Farmingdale State continues Skyline play at home on Saturday, when it plays host to defending conference champion U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at noon.
