Farmingdale State - 12, FDU-Florham - 4
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team used a nine-goal first half en route to a 12-4 victory over non-conference opponent FDU-Florham on Tuesday. With the win, the Rams improved to 6-2 overall, while the Devils fell to 6-4.
FSC opened the scoring five minutes into the first quarter when senior midfielder Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) finished a pass from classmate Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.) at the 9:47 mark. Just 35 seconds later, Mai found the back of the net on an assist from junior midfielder Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.) to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.
Farmingdale State outscored FDU-Florham 3-1 over the remaining 6:55 of the first to take a 5-1 advantage. Freshman attack Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored twice during the stretch, while Mai added another to give the Rams the four-goal lead after one.
The Rams continued to build the advantage in the second quarter as junior attack Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded a goal and junior attack Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) added back-to-back scores just 24 seconds apart to extend the lead to 8-1. Farmingdale State capped the first-half with a Forchelli man-up goal off a pass from senior midfielder Casey Fortunato (Northport, N.Y.) with 2:27 remaining, giving FSC a 9-1 halftime edge.
Farmingdale State pushed the lead to nine early in the third quarter when Forchelli scored another man-up goal. Vargas later completed his hat trick before Mai added his third goal of the game at the 11:29 mark of the third to make it 12-2.
FDU-Florham scored once in the third and added the only goal of the fourth quarter as FSC went on for the 12-4 victory.
Mai, Forchelli and Vargas each recorded three goals for the Rams, while Giovinco finished with two goals and three assists.
Junior faceoff specialist Daniel Ainbinder (Levittown, N.Y.) went 8-for-11 on faceoffs and collected eight ground balls. Senior defender Matt Durnin (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the team with seven ground balls, to go with three caused turnovers, while junior long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) recorded four caused turnovers.
Junior goalkeeper Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) earned the win with eight saves in 56:47 of action, and sophomore Matthew Taylor (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) made one save in the final 3:13.
Farmingdale State will next host Alfred State College on Saturday, March 28th at 3:00 p.m.
