Farmingdale State - 22, Alfred State - 4
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 22-4 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams (7-2) scored the first five goals and led 7-1 after the first 15 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Nicholas Mistler (Patchogue, N.Y.) opened the scoring only 1:27 in off an assist from senior midfielder Tommy Mai (Islip, N.Y.). Just 33 seconds later, junior attack Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) scored off a pass from Anthony Parisi (Levittown, N.Y.) to make it 2-0.
FSC freshman attack Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored off an assist from junior Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) before freshman midfielder Thomas Bores (North Babylon, N.Y.) netted his first collegiate goal to give the Rams a 4-0 lead. Alfred State got on the board late in the quarter, but Farmingdale State responded with two more goals, including tallies from Forchelli and senior midfielder Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.), to take a 7-1 lead after one.
The Rams extended their advantage in the second quarter with nine more goals. Mai opened the scoring in the frame before Vargas, Mistler, and Giovinco each added tallies. Parisi later recorded his first goal of the season, and Mai capped the half with a goal off an assist from Bores as Farmingdale State carried a 16-2 lead into the break.
Farmingdale State added four more goals in the third quarter, including another from Parisi and a man-up goal by Mistler.
In the fourth, sophomore midfielder Nick Maddux (Medford, N.Y.) and junior defender Cole Longo (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) registered their first goals of the season as Farmingdale State went on for the 22-4 victory.
Mistler led the Rams with four goals and two assists, while Giovinco and Vargas tallied three goals and three assists apiece. Forchelli and Parisi each scored three times and Mai finished with two goals and two assists.
Freshman Fabrice Cormier (Copiague, N.Y.) went 13-for-16 on face offs with 10 ground balls, while junior Daniel Ainbinder (Levittown, N.Y.) won 6-of-9 draws and had six ground balls.
Farmingdale State will next travel to face Skyline Conference opponent Merchant Marine on Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
