Baseball Captures Win Versus Lehman

Farmingdale State 21, Lehman 6
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Sophomore outfielder Mike D'Angelo's (Mineola, N.Y.) fourth-inning grand slam to left field Tuesday night highlighted the Farmingdale State College baseball team's 21-6 victory over visiting Lehman College.

The grand slam by D'Angelo (2-for-3, 3 R, 6 RBI, 2 BB) broke a 2-2 tie, and gave the Rams (1-1) the lead for good.

After the Lightning (0-7) scratched across one run in each of the first two innings, FSC leveled the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Senior Dom LaFroscia (Sayville, N.Y.) crossed the plate when D'Angelo reached on a bases-loaded infield error, before freshman catcher Joseph Lanza (East Meadow, N.Y.) lofted a game-tying sacrifice fly to center field to drive in senior Preseason All-American outfielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and make the score 2-2.

In the fourth frame, the Rams loaded the bases behind consecutive singles by senior Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and LaFroscia reached on singles, before Heyder was issued a walk. From there, D'Angelo drove a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall, giving the home side a 6-2 lead that it would not relinquish.

Farmingdale State tacked on another four runs in the fifth inning, and utilized four bases-loaded walks on its way to a nine-run sixth inning to take full control. The Rams finished the evening with 13 hits, 19 walks and were hit by five pitches.

LaFroscia reached base safely six times, going 3-for-4 at the dish with three runs and as many walks, while Heyder (1-for-2, 3 BB) and sophomores Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.) and Tyler Diez (Levittown, N.Y.) scored three runs apiece. Freshman Dylan Alberto (Centereach, N.Y.) came off the bench to post a 2-for-3 showing with four RBI.

FSC used seven pitchers in registering its first victory of the season, with freshman right-hander Jacob Kouba (Plainview, N.Y.) tossing three innings of one-hit, three-strikeout relief to on the win.

The Rams' next seven games will take place on their annual spring break trip to the Sunshine State, as they will compete at the Northeast Regional Park complex in Davenport, Florida. Farmingdale State opens its stint Friday night at 7 p.m., when it faces Clarkson University.
