PATCHOGUE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven-straight matches on Wednesday night, as the Rams responded to a one-set deficit to defeat St. Joseph's University-Long Island in Skyline Conference play, 3-1.
FSC (12-2, 7-1 Skyline) is off to the program's best record over a 14-match stretch since the 2006 Rams won 12 of their first 14 during a 22-6 season.
After dropping a two-point first set to the host Golden Eagles (10-7, 3-3), the Rams ripped off three set victories in a row while limiting St. Joseph's to a .018 hitting percentage the rest of the way. Junior
Samantha DiBiasi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) served out the final six points of the second frame to level the match at 1-all, before sophomore middle blocker
Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) posted a six-point third set on five kills and two block assists to put Farmingdale State ahead for good.
The fourth set featured eight ties and five lead changes, before consecutive kills by Henry (eight kills, .263 hitting, five total blocks) and a service ace by freshman
Valerie Rios Santos (Bronx, N.Y.) broke an 18-18 tie. The Golden Eagles pulled to within two points at 24-22, however, a kill at the left pin by junior outside hitter
Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) closed out the match.
Russo's 16-point evening on 14 kills and four block assists led all players, while freshman right side
Leslie Wandmacher (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added 13 kills and two block assists on a .297 hitting percentage. The FSC defense received a career-high 28 digs from senior libero
Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.), as well as 12 from DiBiasi and 10 apiece from Russo and Rios Santos. Senior setter
