Volleyball Runs Winning Streak to Eight With Skyline Sweep of Yeshiva

Farmingdale State 3, Yeshiva 0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-8)
BRONX, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team moved its winning streak to eight consecutive matches on Tuesday night, and equaled the best start in program history with its 13-2 record as FSC swept Skyline Conference foe Yeshiva University on the road, 3-0.

The Rams (8-1 Skyline) are now even with the program's 2006 team for the best 15-match start in the school's NCAA era.

FSC moved ahead of the Maccabees (1-11, 0-8 Skyline) by a 10-2 score in the first set courtesy of seven straight points with junior outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) at the service line, before using three service aces by classmate Jessica Farrell (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

With the visitors ahead 17-14 in the second stanza, Farmingdale State received consecutive kills by sophomores Alexa Hansen (Warwick, N.Y.) and Allison Marino (Merrimack, N.H.), along with strong serving from senior libero Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) to end the set on an 8-0 run.

A kill by Farrell broke open the Rams' 6-3 edge in the third set, with Marino guiding her side to the next five points at the service line, to take control. Following a YU point, junior Caroline Lange (Shoreham, N.Y.) floored a kill to send classmate Samantha DiBiasi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) back to serve. From there, the defensive specialist rattled off the next five points to put the set further out of reach.

A total of 13 Rams scored points in the match, including Farrell's career-high 11 on eight aces and three kills, and Marino's nine points on a 6-2-8 (.500) hitting line and three of the visitors' 20 aces on the evening. Lange and freshman Valerie Rios Santos (Bronx, N.Y.) registered four kills apiece, with Salinas adding five points on three aces and two kills in as many attacks.

Farmingdale State returns home on Thursday night (Oct. 29), when it plays host to non-conference foe William Paterson University at 7 p.m.
