Farmingdale State 3, Mount Saint Mary 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Juniors
Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and
Mackenzie Marquardt (Centereach, N.Y.), along with freshman
Leslie Wandmacher (Bay Shore, N.Y.), all scored double-figure points on Saturday afternoon as the Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team won its sixth consecutive match with a 3-0 Skyline Conference sweep of Mount Saint Mary College.
Russo floored a match-high 13 kills on .414 hitting and added one service ace for the Rams (11-2, 6-1 Skyline), who hit .294 as a team – FSC's second-best mark of the campaign (.341, at Brooklyn, Sept. 17). Marquardt registered 12 kills for the second time in the last three matches, while Wandmacher added 10 kills and two block assists against the Knights (10-6, 3-2). Senior setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) directed the offense with 39 assists while contributing an ace and six digs, with junior defensive specialist
Samantha DiBiasi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and senior libero
Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) chipping in with match highs of three aces and 22 digs, respectively.
Following a kill from freshman
Valerie Rios Santos (Bronx, N.Y.), DiBiasi's four-straight points at the service line pushed FSC ahead of MSMC by a 13-4 count to take control of the opening set. DiBiasi later tacked on a service ace, before sophomore middle blocker
Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded one of her seven kills on the afternoon to close out the 10-point margin.
With the Rams down 5-3 early in the second set, Henry slammed home a kill before seven-consecutive points came at the service line from Rios Santos to put the hosts ahead for good. Mount Saint Mary pulled to within an 18-14 margin, before Wandmacher halted the visitors' run with a kill. Strong serving from Salinas and DiBiasi helped FSC double its lead in the match and close out the set, with Russo adding two kills along the way.
The Rams held a 13-11 lead in the final set before pulling away with an 8-2 run that included four kills from Russo.
Farmingdale State is back in Skyline action Wednesday night (Oct. 21), when it travels to Patchogue, N.Y., to face St. Joseph's-Long Island at 7.
