KINGS POINT, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's basketball team won its fifth-straight game on Saturday afternoon, as the Rams posted a 56-41Â victory at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
FSC (11-2, 4-0 Skyline) never trailed in the contest, and broke a 7-7 tie by scoring seven consecutive points over the Mariners (4-9, 1-3) to take the lead for good. Seniors
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and
Robbie Siechen (Syracuse, N.Y.), and junior
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.), all converted layups during the spread, while sophomore
Jordan Tucker (Elmont, N.Y.) added one free throw. After USMMA cut its deficit to 21-19 with 1:51 on the clock, junior
Liam Buckley and Siechen converted lay-ins to give the visitors a 25-19 lead at halftime.
The Rams, who held a decisive 56-34 rebounding edge on the afternoon, put the game out of reach by scoring 15 of the first 19 points to start the second half, as junior guard
Derek Reed's (Shinnecock, N.Y.) 3-pointer pushed his team's lead to 40-23 with 13:20 left. FSC led by as many as 21 points, including a 49-28 edge on Evans's layup with 5:26 remaining, to move to 4-0 in Skyline play.
Notias led all players 15 points to go with nine rebounds, while Evans (13 pts., game-high 12 reb.) registered his third-straight double-double. Senior guard
Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with eight points, nine boards and four assists, while Siechen and Buckley finished the afternoon with seven and six points, respectively. FSC limited the Mariners to a .262 field-goal percentage (16-of-61), including a 4-of-29 showing from beyond the 3-point arc.
Farmingdale State is back on the road in Skyline play Wednesday night (Jan. 14), when it travels to Throggs Neck, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. start at SUNY Maritime College.
