FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team completed its fall non-conference schedule Tuesday night, as the Rams defeated visiting Baruch College by a 6-1 score.
FSC (3-4) took control of the match by defeating the Bearcats (2-4) in two out of three flights to secure the doubles point, including a 6-0 decision at the No. 2 position by senior
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman
Martine McGowan (Port Washington, N.Y.), and a 6-2 triumph in the third slot by seniors
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and
Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.).
Loria doubled the Rams' lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in her No. 5 singles match, before Gisler registered the same scores in her decision in the fourth flight to put the hosts up 3-0. Following a Baruch victory in the top flight, Freshman
Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) clinched the victory for FSC with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third position.
McGowan captured a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 flight, before DeMaria carded a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 6.
Farmingdale State holds a 1-0 record in Skyline Conference play, and will take on conference foes from here on out in the fall portion of its regular season – starting with Saturday's (Oct. 4) 11 a.m. road match at St. Joseph's-Long Island.
