PATCHOGUE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's tennis team earned a 5-2 Skyline Conference victory at St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improve to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in Skyline play, while the Golden Eagles fall to 5-1, 3-1.
Farmingdale State swept all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Junior Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) earned a 6-0 win at first doubles, followed by a 6-1 victory from freshman Martine McGowan (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) at second doubles. Senior duo MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) closed out the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win in the third position.
In singles play, the Rams clinched the victory with straight-set wins from Gisler (6-2, 6-3), Loria (6-2, 6-1), and DeMaria (6-2, 6-1) at the fourth, fifth, and sixth flights, respectively. FSC's fifth point came from McGowan, who tallied a three-set win at the #2 position, 6-3, 5-7, 10-5.
Farmingdale State returns to action on Tuesday, October 7th, when they host Manhattanville in a Skyline Conference match beginning at 4:30 p.m.
