Lehman 1, Farmingdale State 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's soccer team fell in its home opener Wednesday afternoon, as the Rams lost to Lehman College by a 1-0 score.
FSC (0-2) controlled play in the first half, holding the majority of possession and a 5-3 edge in shots, but were unable to break through against the Lightning (1-0). Rams freshman striker
Josue Granados (Brentwood, N.Y.) placed a pair of shots on target in the opening 45-minute stanza, forcing saves from the Lehman keeper on a 22nd-minute breakaway and on a set-piece header from six yards out less than three minutes later.
Farmingdale State freshman netminder
Vas Dallas (Garden City South, N.Y.) made five of his six saves on the afternoon in the second half, including a point-blank stop from the left channel in the 76th minute of action. The ensuing rebound caromed to the top of the penalty area, where the Lightning's next shot snuck past a Rams defender on the goal line for the only score of the day.
A late Lehman foul inside the halfway line gave the hosts a direct kick with less than one minute before the final whistle, but a potential equalizing shot at the left-hand side of the penalty area by freshman substitute
Mauricio Oviedo (Central Islip, N.Y.) sailed narrowly wide.
Farmingdale State is next in action on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 6-7) at the Brick City Classic in Newark, N.J., playing host institution Rutgers-Newark in a noontime kickoff on the first day of action before taking on The College of New Jersey on Sunday at 3 p.m.
