New Paltz - 1, Farmingdale State - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday evening at home.
In the first half, the Rams (2-5-1) generated a pair of quality chances. Freshman forward Paulina Fonfara (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had her attempt denied on a diving stop by the Hawks' goalkeeper before FSC earned a corner. Off the ensuing corner kick, senior forward Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) put a shot on target, but it was saved to keep the game scoreless.
The Hawks (3-2-1) found the back of the net in the 58th minute as Brooke Kelleher headed home a cross in front for the lone goal of the match.
Farmingdale State nearly tied the score in the final minute as Fonfara collected a feed down the right wing from senior defender Abigail Borra (Syosset, N.Y.). She fired from 20 yards out, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar. After the New Paltz goal kick with 15 seconds left, Farmingdale State earned a free kick but were unable to attempt a shot as time expired.
Senior goalkeeper Hailey Stork (Bellmore, N.Y.) finished with seven saves for the Rams, while Jess Centeri made three saves in net for New Paltz.
FSC will return to action on Saturday, September 20th when they travel to non-conference opponent Scranton for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
