FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College Department of Athletics is proud to announce its 2024-25 year-end award winners, honoring student-athletes and teams for their efforts in the academic year.

The All-Farmingdale State Team highlights some of the top student-athlete performances in competition; the George LaRosa Leadership Award is given to one student-athlete annually; and the Academic Achievement Award is given to the team that earned the highest grade-point average this academic year.

All-Farmingdale State Team

As is an annual tradition, the athletics staff has selected its All-Farmingdale State Team. This year's outfit features 16 student-athletes based on their accomplishments during the past academic year, who boast an array of accolades in their respective sports. Those student-athletes are showcased below, in alphabetical order:

Brad Castaldy, Men's Golf (Sr.; Dix Hills, N.Y.)
Castaldy posted a career-low average of 75.54 across 24 rounds during the 2024-25 academic year. He led FSC to its fifth consecutive Skyline Conference Championship, earning all-conference honors in all five seasons. Castaldy carded a season-low 70 (-2) on Oct. 19 at the George Cangero Invitational, as well as a pair of 1-under rounds: at the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic (71) on Sept. 7, and April 19 at the FSC Spring Invitational (69). A former Skyline Player of the Year, Castaldy competed at the NCAA Championship five times, making the cut as both an individual and as part of the team.

Lien Collings, Women's Tennis (Sr.; Merrick, N.Y.)
Collings was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-Conference – her fourth-such honor. She guided the Rams to their record eighth Skyline Conference title and NCAA appearance, as she went 11-6 in top-flight singles play and 13-6 in doubles competition. Collings's 46 career doubles wins are tied for third-most in program history, while her 38 singles wins are tied for eighth.

Madison DeMaio, Softball (Fr.; Elmont, N.Y.)
DeMaio was selected as the Skyline Conference's Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship after helping FSC to its 10th title. Her 23 victories in the pitcher's circle are the Rams' single-season record, and she compiled 140 strikeouts and a 2.32 earned run average. DeMaio, the ECAC Softball Rookie of the Year, ranked second nationally with 34 games started, and seventh with 24 complete games.

Johnny Dougherty, Baseball (Sr.; Kings Park, N.Y.)
Dougherty was named a Fourth Team All-American by D3baseball.com, as the two-time Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year notched 79 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched, to go with a 2.85 earned run average in his senior season. The two-time All-Region selection ranked 27th nationally this season in strikeouts per nine innings (11.85), 40th in WHIP (1.03) and 47th in strikeouts. Dougherty, a two-time Academic All-District selection, leaves FSC as its all-time leader with four shutouts and seven career complete games, while also ranking second in strikeouts per nine innings (10.33), third for both strikeouts (186) and wins (17), and eighth in ERA (2.39).

Dan Erler, Men's Lacrosse (Sr.; Smithtown, N.Y.)
Erler was the Skyline Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, after directing the nation's second-ranked scoring defense (7.30 GAA/game) to its second-straight 16-win season, Skyline Conference Championship and NCAA Championship appearance. The program's career leader in goalkeeper wins (41) ranked No. 8 in Division III with an 8.07 goals against average, and was 31st with a .575 save percentage.

She played 1,468 minutes across 20 games and was named Skyline Conference and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and Fourth Team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches. Getfield paced a Rams defense that conceded just one goal in Skyline competition this fall, and ended the regular season with a conference shutout streak of nearly 900 minutes.

Andrew Giovinco, Men's Lacrosse (Sr.; Syosset, N.Y.)
Giovinco was named the Skyline Conference's Offensive Player of the Year and to the prestigious USILA Division III Senior All-Star Game after helping the Rams to back-to-back Skyline Championships, and its first-ever home NCAA Championship game. His 48 goals and six game-winners led FSC, and the first-year Ram dished out 21 assists for a total of 69 points.

He was named the Field Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season, leading the Rams to its second straight Skyline Conference Championship. He recorded personal-bests in every throwing event this year, including the weight throw, hammer, javelin, discus, and shot put. George LaRosa Leadership Award

Farmingdale State College senior Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) has been selected as the 2024-25 winner of the George LaRosa Leadership Award.

This prestigious annual award honors a student-athlete who exemplifies great leadership qualities for their team, both on and off the playing fields. The recipient demonstrates integrity, inspiration and humility, embodying what it truly means to be a student-athlete at Farmingdale State College.

In addition to all of her achievements on the tennis court, Collings has been a leader within her team and throughout the Athletics Department since arriving in 2021.

She has proudly represented the College through a variety of efforts, from participating in student-athlete interviews with athletic communication students at Fordham, to being featured in a marketing campaign for the college's Office of Marketing and Communications, showcasing the Sport Management major. Collings was also highlighted in a D3Week spotlight interview, consistently demonstrating her pride in being part of the Farmingdale State athletics community.

One of her most impactful contributions was leading community service initiatives for both the men's and women's tennis teams. This past winter, she organized a holiday gift drive alongside the men's tennis team, adopting a local family in need. After receiving a wish list from the family, including gift ideas and clothing sizes, Collings took the lead on collecting money, shopping for the items, and inviting teammates to participate. Both teams later came together to wrap the gifts and enjoy a moment of bonding during the holiday season.

"It was a fun and memorable experience," said Collings. "We got to surprise a family who wasn't able to afford these types of gifts. It was a meaningful way to give back to the community, while also strengthening our connection as a team."

"Lien leads by example every day and embodies everything this award stands for," said head men's and women's tennis coach Adam Waterhouse. "Her leadership and work ethic are unmatched, and she's been a role model since day one. I'm incredibly proud of everything she has accomplished on and off the court."

Academic Achievement Award

The National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division III Philosophy Statement says that the academic performance of its student-athletes should be, "at a minimum, consistent with that of the general student body." As such, it is with great pride that the department announces that nine of the 18 FSC teams registered a combined 3.0-plus grade-point average on the 4.0 scale during the 2024-25 academic year.

The team with the highest GPA, and earning the Academic Achievement Award is the Men's Golf team, which compiled a remarkable 3.51 grade-point average.
