Stolfi, Softball Walk Off Old Westbury in Skyline Championship Play; DeMaio Sets Single-Season Wins Mark

2025 Skyline Conference Softball Championship - Game 4 (double elimination)
(2) Farmingdale State 3, (3) Old Westbury 2
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Junior Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) hit a two-out, bases-loaded single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning on Thursday, scoring sophomore Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) and giving second-seeded Farmingdale State College a 3-2, walk-off victory over No. 3-seed SUNY Old Westbury in the first day of the 2025 Skyline Conference Softball Championship.

FSC (27-14) advances to Saturday's winners bracket final at 10 a.m., when they play at top-seeded Manhattanville University in Purchase, N.Y. The Panthers (23-17) face an elimination game at 12:30 at the same site, where they will take on Mount Saint Mary College.

Freshman right-hander and Skyline Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.), earned her 21st victory in the circle, setting the Farmingdale State single-season record (previous: 20, Hope Zino in 2011). DeMaio scattered one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out four Old Westbury batters.

The Panthers jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning on a run-scoring double play, before upping its advantage to 2-0 with a RBI ground out in the third.

After leaving a runner on second base in each of the first two innings, FSC got on the board with one run in the bottom of the third. Toro, recently named a first-team All-Skyline outfielder, led off the frame with a walk and moved to third base on a throwing error and fielder's choice. With one away and two runners in scoring position, fellow first-teamer Stolfi laid down a squeeze bunt to score Toro with Farmingdale State's first run of the afternoon.

Down by one run entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rams rallied for their eighth come-from-behind victory of the season. Toro worked a one-out walk to load the bases, before an infield grounder forced out a FSC runner at the plate to bring the hosts down to its final out. Senior shortstop and first-team honoree Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) was then hit by a pitch for the school-record 20th time this season (tied for the second-most in Division III this spring), forcing home freshman outfielder Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.) with the tying run. That set the stage for Stolfi, who worked a 2-2 count before dropping her looping fly ball just in front of the Old Westbury right fielder to send Toro across the dish with the walk-off run.

Toro reached base safely three times on two walks and a single to go with a stolen base, while Stolfi finished 2-for-3 and drove Toro home twice. Capuano (SB), Galgano and sophomore Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) registered one hit apiece for Farmingdale State.
