Game 1: Farmingdale State 6, Manhattanville 1
Game 2: Manhattanville 2, Farmingdale State 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College softball team celebrated Senior Night on Friday, as the Rams split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Manhattanville University in a match-up between the top-two teams in the conference standings. The Rams handed Manhattanville its first conference loss of the season by a 6-1 score in the opening tilt, before the Valiants held on for a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
Prior to the twinbill, Farmingdale State honored seniors
Anna Gibbons (East Northport, N.Y.),
Alyssa Cowen (Garden City South, N.Y.) and
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.), who played in their final regular-season home games in a green and white uniform.
The Valiants (27-9, 17-1 Skyline) and Rams (24-14, 13-3) have earned the top-two seeds, respectively, and first-round byes in next week's six-team 2025 Skyline Conference Softball Championship. Manhattanville will play host to the four-team double-elimination segment of the championship, May 8-10.Â
Game 1
Cowen scored the first run of the day in the second inning, as she came home when sophomore
Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) reached on an infield throwing error to put the hosts on the board. Freshman catcher
Kaysee Mojo (Riverhead, N.Y.) doubled the FSC lead two batters later, as her single through the left side plated Marchini to stake the hosts to a 2-0 lead.
Farmingdale State doubled its advantage one inning later, as junior designated player
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) brought home sophomore
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) on a squeeze bunt, before a single down the left-field line by sophomore
Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) scored Capuano, increasing the Rams' edge to 4-0.
Capuano then provided a clutch two-out, two-run single to left-center field in the fourth frame, chasing junior
Lauren Varagnolo (Centereach, N.Y.) and sophomore
Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) across the plate for Farmingdale State's fifth and sixth runs of the game.
Freshman right-hander
Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) picked up her Skyline-best 18th victory in the pitcher's circle, scattering one unearned run, six hits and three walks while striking out three Valiants.Â
Game 2
DeMaio was in a pitcher's duel with Manhattanville starter Jori Wilkendorf, with the Valiants backing their right-hander with single runs in the second and fifth innings to go ahead 2-0.
The Rams were unable to capitalize on a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the third inning, and then left runners in scoring position in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, FSC rallied to get onto the scoreboard. DeMaio laced a two-out single to left-center field, before Toro moved her up 60 feet by reaching on an infield single. DeMaio scored from second on a single to right by Hammock, who along with Toro moved up to second and third on the throw home from the outfield, respectively. Farmingdale State's rally ended in the next at-bat on a strikeout, as the teams split the pair of contests.
Hammock reached base safely three times on her run-scoring single and two walks, while DeMaio took the tough-luck loss in allowing two earned runs, six hits and one walk while fanning three.
Before conference championship play gets underway next week, Farmingdale State rounds out its regular-season schedule Saturday morning in a 10 a.m. doubleheader at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y.
