FARMINGDALE STATE POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. | The Farmingdale State College softball team fell in its opening game of the 2025 NCAA Division III Softball Championship on Thursday, dropping a 12-0, five-inning decision to second-ranked Christopher Newport University at Captains Park.

The Rams (29-15) will now play in an elimination game Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Alfred University, while the host Captains (36-4) will face No. 24 Randolph-Macon College in a winners bracket contest, Friday morning at 11.

FSC put a runner on base in each of the first four innings against CNU, but were unable to score against lefty starter Jamie Martin (16-2; 3 IP, 6 K). Senior shortstop Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) reached in the first inning on a two-out single up the middle, marking her second-straight NCAA tourney game with a hit dating back to the team's 2022 appearance at Randolph-Macon.

Christopher Newport registered four unearned runs across the first two innings versus Rams freshman righty Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.), before breaking the game open with an eight-run third inning.

Sophomore first baseman Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) reached base safely in both of her plate appearances, as she worked a leadoff walk to start the second inning before dropping a one-out single down the left-field line in the fourth. Fellow sophomore corner infielder, Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.), registered a two-out walk in the third inning to reach base in her NCAA tourney debut.
