FARMINGDALE STATE POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. |Â Farmingdale State College was eliminated from the 2025 NCAA Division III Softball Championship on Friday afternoon, as the Rams were defeated in eight innings by Alfred University, 6-5.
FSC ends its 2025 season with a 29-16 record, capturing its record-10th Skyline Conference championship along the way.
Farmingdale State jumped in front in the top of the first inning, using two hits and as many sacrifice bunts to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore center fielder
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) led off against the Saxons (33-10) with a single up the middle, before advancing 60 feet on a sacrifice by sophomore third baseman
Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.). Toro moved up to third base when senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) beat out an infield single, marking the third-consecutive NCAA tourney game in which she's reached base safely dating back to FSC's previous appearance in 2022, before junior designated player
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) drove in the first run of the afternoon on a squeeze bunt.
Alfred took the lead with a two-run second inning, and upped its edge to 3-1 with an additional run in the bottom of the third. From there, Farmingdale State batted around in posting a four-run fifth inning to stake claim to a 5-3 advantage. Hammock and freshman outfielder
Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.) crossed the plate to tie the game at 3-all when Stolfi reached on a throwing error, before Capuano scored the go-ahead run on a bunt single by sophomore first baseman
Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.). The Rams' lead moved to 5-3 three batters later, with senior second baseman
Alyssa Cowen (Garden City South, N.Y.) scoring when freshman pitcher
Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) reached on a two-out infield error.
The Saxons scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 5-5, but it was the Farmingdale State defense that held tough to send the game to extra innings as DeMaio worked out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh. Cowen first threw home to freshman catcher
Kaysee Mojo (Riverhead, N.Y.) to record the second out on a force play, before Hammock took the next ground ball at the hot corner and stepped on third base to get FSC out of danger.
Toro and Hammock reached to start the top of the eighth on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively, before the Saxons turned a double play at the corners and caught a line out to send the game to the bottom of the eighth. Alfred received a lead-off double just out of the reach of Toro to start its half of the inning, and scored the go-ahead run on an infield error one batter later to advance in the bracket.
Hammock (2 BB) and Capuano (1-for-3) each reached base safely three times, with the senior getting hit by a pitch twice – extending her single-season program record to 22 and her career record to 39. Mojo went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, while Stolfi finished with two RBI. DeMaio (23-9) struck out three Saxons, as she started in the pitcher's circle for her nation-leading 35th time this spring.
