Game 2: Farmingdale State 2, John Jay 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with John Jay on Tuesday afternoon. The teams traded shutouts, as Bloodhounds (23-9) sophomore Lindsay Ogden (W, 7.0 IP, 2 H) and FSC freshman
Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y. - W, 17-6, 7.0 IP, 1 H) each tossed complete games.Â
Game 1
John Jay opened the scoring in the second inning of game one after a Rams (23-13) throwing error extended the frame and led to three unearned runs.
Farmingdale State was held without a hit until the fifth inning, when sophomore first baseman
Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) reached on a double.
The Bloodhounds used a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh as they went on for the 5-0 victory.
Game 2
In game two, FSC used a Sturtz hit, stolen base, and two sacrifice bunts in the second inning to take its first lead of the day at 1-0.
In the third, sophomore center fielder
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) hit a single, stole second base, and later scored on a base hit by senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) to push the lead to 2-0.
DeMaio carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, when John Jay recorded a one-out single to center. She did not allow another hit, securing the 2-0 shutout victory for FSC.
DeMaio improved to 17-6 on the season, which ties her for the third-most wins in a single-season in program history. The all-time mark was set by Farmingdale State Hall of Famer, Hope Zino, who went 20-3 in 2011.
The Rams return to Skyline Conference action on Saturday (May 3) when they travel to play Sarah Lawrence at noon.
