Baseball Sweeps SJBK; Lambert Becomes All-Time Hits Leader

Game 1: Farmingdale State 7, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 4
Game 2: Farmingdale State 10, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 2
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State Collge baseball team improved to 12-2 in Skyline Conference play this season after sweeping St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at home on Sunday. The Rams captured game one, 7-4, and was victorious in game two by a 10-2 final. FSC is currently in first place in the Skyline standings with six key conference games remaining in the regular season.

Senior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) tallied five hits across the two games and became the program's all-time hits leader. He tallied his 167th career hit on an infield single in the first inning of game two, passing Tom Rydzewski (2012-15) who held the record since 2015. In addition, Lambert set the program record for career total bases, passing former teammate Bobby Pollock (2021-24).

Game 1

Farmingdale State used a four-run first inning, as well as three runs in the fifth en route to the 7-4 game one victory.

In the bottom of the first, senior third baseman Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) led off with a single and junior right fielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) followed with a walk. After a sacrifice bunt by freshman shortstop Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.), Lambert registered a two-run single up the middle to put the Rams ahead. Sophomore designated hitter Ryan Tam (Wantagh, N.Y.) batted next and hit a single before junior second baseman Christian Villacci (Smithtown, N.Y.) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. FSC's final run of the inning came on an RBI single by senior left fielder Matthew Flood (Islip, N.Y.).

The Rams were ahead 4-1 and extended their lead to six with three runs in the fifth on an RBI ground out, bunt single and walk.

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (2-24, 0-18 Skyline) tallied two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh as the Rams went on for the 7-4 victory.

Lambert and Villacci finished with two hits and two RBI's apiece, while Tam recorded two hits, one run batted in and two runs scored. DiRocco, Heyder and Kocovic each produced one hit and a walk in the win.

Game 2

Farmingdale State started quick again in the second game as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Following two quick outs, Delacruz reached on an error before Lambert tallied his record-setting single. Tam then tripled home both runners and scored on a base hit by Kocovic to put FSC in front, 3-0.

In the fourth inning, Lambert increased the Rams lead with a two-run triple and quickly scored on a double by Tam.

FSC led 7-0 in the fifth and used an RBI double by Delacruz and an RBI single by Lambert to take a commanding 9-0 advantage.

The Rams used eight pitchers in the 10-2 win, highlighted by junior Derek Watts (Baldwin, N.Y. - W, 5-1, 1 H, 2 SO), who tossed three shutout innings to earn his fifth win of the season. Senior Michael Camardi (Syosset, N.Y. - 2.0 IP, 1 H), freshman Joseph Mattaliano (Staten Island, N.Y. - 1.0 IP, 1 H) and senior Jeromy Poveda (Hicksville, N.Y. - 1.0 IP, 0 H) each contributed scoreless outings in the victory.

Lambert led the way with three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Delacruz had two hits and scored three times. Tam registered two hits, a walk, three RBI's and two runs scored and both Kocovic and Heyder ended with a pair of hits apiece.

The Rams will next travel to Maritime for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 3:30 p.m.
