FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College softball team earned a pair of run-rule victories over visiting Hunter College on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams took game one 8-0 in six innings before picking up a 13-2 victory in five innings in the second game.Â
Game 1
FSC (16-10) freshman
Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Farmingdale State to the game one victory. She had a no-hitter through 5.1 innings and struck out a season-high eight batters to improve to 10-5 on the season.
The Rams used runs in the first and fourth on RBI singles by junior designated player
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore center fielder
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) to take a 2-0 advantage.
In the fifth, freshman catcher
Kaysee Mojo (Riverhead, N.Y.) increased the FSC lead with a solo home run, her second of the year, over the left field fence.
Farmingdale State led 3-0 with one out in the sixth and scored five runs to clinch the 8-0 win. Sophomore right fielder
Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.), Mojo, sophomore third baseman
Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) and senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) all recorded RBI's en route to the victory.
Capuano, who tallied the game-clinching single with two outs, recorded two hits, a walk and two runs scored. Mojo had the home run and two RBI's, while Toro reached base twice and scored one run.
Game 2
In game two, the Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 3-0 advantage. Hammock laid down a perfect bunt single to score Toro and later scored on a wild pitch. Marchini followed with an infield single to bring home FSC's third run.
Hunter (9-19) pulled one back in the top of the second, but the Rams responded with four runs to take a commanding 7-1 advantage.Â
The Rams tallied five runs in the third and one more in the fourth as they went on for the 13-2 victory.
As a team, Farmingdale State drew 11 walks at the plate, a mark that ranks third all-time in program history.Â
Marchini led the way offensively with a game-high three hits, three RBI's and two runs scored. Capuano contributed two hits, two RBI's and three runs in the win.
Junior starter
Deanna Ebert (Bay Shore, N.Y.) moved her pitching record to 2-2 on the season, scattering two hits and three walks while striking out a pair of Hawks in her three-inning stint.
FSC will next return to Skyline Conference action when they host Old Westbury on Saturday at noon.
