Men's Lacrosse Runs Winning Streak to Three, Defeats Eastern Connecticut; Erler Sets Career Wins Mark

Farmingdale State 14, Eastern Connecticut 5
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. | Sophomore attacker Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) scored five points on four goals and one assist Saturday afternoon, while senior goalkeeper Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made 13 saves to guide the Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 win at Eastern Connecticut State University – the Rams' third-consecutive victory.

For Erler, the victory in cage was the 31st of his career, and set Farmingdale State's all-time record. The mark was previously held by Thomas Fallon, who registered 30 wins between 2013-16.

The Warriors (2-1) scored the first two goals of the day, before FSC (3-2) scored nine-consecutive goals to take control. Single goals by Adam Giovinco, senior Gerardo Maldonado (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and senior Andrew Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) inside the final 4:14 of the opening quarter started the run, and gave the visitors the lead for good at 3-2.

The Rams' run continued with six-straight goals in the second period, with the defense keeping ECSU off the scoresheet until an extra-man tally three seconds before halftime. Adam Giovinco completed his hat trick with 6:32 left, while senior midfielder Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) potted a pair of goals in the stanza, as FSC carried a 9-3 lead into the intermission.

Farmingdale State put the game out of reach in the third period, registering the first four goals after the resumption of play to lead 13-3 on junior Kamryn Gill's (Riverhead, N.Y.) third goal of the afternoon with 5:59 on the clock. Erler made five saves in both the third and fourth quarters to backstop the Rams' defensive efforts.

Gill completed the day with four points, while Maldonado (2g, 1a) and Andrew Giovinco (1g, 2a) each collected three. Senior Thomas Mai (Islip, N.Y.) joined Kollar (six ground balls) with two goals on the afternoon.

Farmingdale State is back in action at home on Wednesday afternoon (March 12), when it plays host to Lasell University at 3.
