FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College baseball team fell in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against visiting Hobart College, with the Statesmen taking a 9-0 decision in the opening seven-inning contest before capturing a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.
Hobart (3-2) scored six runs in the top of the first inning in the first game, and limited the Rams (1-4) to a first-inning single by junior outfielder
Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and a second-inning double by freshman shortstop
Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.). FSC sophomore
Dennis Kelly (North Babylon, N.Y.) closed out the game on the mound with two scoreless innings, striking out three Statesmen in the process.
The two teams scored one run apiece in the first inning of the nightcap, with the Rams tying the game at 1-1 when a two-out single by sophomore
Vincent Deiosso (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) scored senior
Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) from second base.
Hobart notched one run in the fourth inning, before Farmingdale State senior first baseman
Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) came home in the bottom of the sixth on a dropped fly ball in the outfield to level the score at 2-all. The Rams proceeded to load the bases, and placed two runners on base in the seventh inning after a one-run top half of the frame by the Statesmen, but were unable to cash in.
Lambert finished the second game 3-for-4 at the dish with his first double of the season, while Deiosso went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice.
Farmingdale State will play host to Nassau Community College in a 3:30 p.m. scrimmage on Wednesday afternoon, before embarking on its annual spring break trip to Florida. The Rams will open action in the Sunshine State on Saturday night (March 15), when they play the Illinois Institute of Technology in Auburndale at 5:30.
