Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y. - W, 3-4, 6.0 IP, 3 SO) tossed a 3-hit, shutout in an 8-0 run-rule win in the first game before the Violets bounced back with a 15-8 victory in game two.
The Rams scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and added two more in the second on an
Anna Gibbons (East Northport, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt and an
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to take an early 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, freshman right fielder
Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.) led off with a single and came in to score on an RBI double by sophomore third baseman
Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.). Two batters later, freshman catcher
Kaysee Mojo (Riverhead, N.Y.) drove in Hammock with a single to go up, 6-0.
Farmingdale State added a run in the fifth, on a DeMaio sacrifice bunt, and another in the sixth, on a fielder's choice bunt by
Alyssa Cowen (Garden City South, N.Y.), as they earned the 8-0 run-rule victory.
Hammock went 4-for-4 with a double, stolen base and three runs scored, while Galgano had three hits and scored one run. Mojo registered two hits and an RBI and junior designated player
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) produced two hits, including a double.
The Rams fell behind 6-1 in the second inning of game two, but cut their deficit to just three on RBI's by Cowen and Hammock.
Still down 6-3 in the fourth, Hammock registered a two-out, two-run triple, followed by an RBI single by Capuano to knot the game at 6-6.
FSC took the lead in the fifth on a pinch-hit RBI single by freshman
Hailey Cannon (Forest Hills, N.Y.), but NYU answered with six runs in the top of the sixth to regain the advantage.
The Violets added three more runs in the seventh as they went on for the 15-8 win.Â
Hammock finished with one hit, two walks, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Capuano had three hits, a double, stolen base and one RBI. Cowen produced a pair of hits and two runs scored, while sophomore first baseman
Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied two hits, an RBI and one run scored. The Rams three pinch-hitters, Cannon,
Jayna Huertas (Mastic, N.Y.) and
Michelle Segura (Shirley, N.Y.), combined to go 3-for-3 in the loss.
Farmingdale State will next head on the road to play non-conference opponent New Paltz in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
